What’s the Next Earth-Shaking Invention on the Horizon?

The Internet is a revolutionary invention. What will be the next revolutionary invention?

Guessing what the next big invention is

Guessing what the next big invention will be is tricky because it depends on new technologies and what people need. But, some areas seem pretty exciting for new stuff.

Smart Computers (Artificial Intelligence): Many smart people think computers that learn on their own (AI) will be super important soon. A top AI expert, Kai-Fu Lee, says it’ll be as big a deal as electricity was back in the day. Imagine computers getting good at understanding us and doing tasks like humans.

Quantum Computers: Some scientists are working on super-fast computers called quantum computers. A quantum physicist named Michelle Simmons says it’s like opening a door to a whole new world. These computers might solve tough problems way faster than our regular ones, which could change how we do lots of things.

Gene Editing (Biotechnology and CRISPR): There’s a tool called CRISPR that helps scientists edit genes. Jennifer Doudna, who knows a lot about it, says we’re at the start of a new era of changing our genes. This could lead to personalized medicine (medicine made just for you), wiping out diseases, and making crops better.

Super-Fast Internet (5G): You know how sometimes the internet is slow? Well, 5G is like super-fast internet that’s going to make everything quicker. An important person named Ajit Pai thinks it can change how our cities work, how cars drive by themselves, and how things like fridges can talk to each other (IoT).

Clean Energy (Clean Energy Innovations): People are getting serious about finding better ways to get power without hurting our planet. Bill Gates, a really rich and smart guy, says we need a “miracle” in energy. This could mean using the sun, and wind, and storing energy in new ways to make our planet cleaner and healthier.

Even though these things sound cool, we can’t be sure exactly what the next big invention will be. Erik Brynjolfsson, a smart person who studies this stuff, says the coolest inventions in the next 25 years will come from digital technology. It’s like mixing different tech things could make something amazing that we haven’t even thought of yet. Exciting times are ahead!
