Following the civil war in South Sudan, I returned home to Uganda from Juba July of 2014 when the conditions could not sustain our media and education projects. My parents were aging, frail and a bit lonely then, as my late parents put it, ” the greatest challenge here is seeing the same face and walls everyday, and having reliable people to do errands.” I therefore decided to stay home in the village with them and engage in agriculture instead of looking for a new job. I have been home since then until their passing at 89 and 90 in 2021 and 2022. I have no regrets for making that choice despite the economic hardships that have come with it.

You made a meaningful choice to prioritize their well-being and companionship over other opportunities.
