“In the day of prosperity, be joyful, and in the day of adversity, consider; God has made the one as well as the other, so that mortals may not find out anything that will come after them.”

Ecclesiastes 7:14 is a verse that is often used to comfort those who are going through difficult times. It reminds us that God is sovereign over all things and that both good times and bad come from Him.

The verse begins with a simple instruction: “In the day of prosperity, be joyful.” This seems obvious, but it is important to think that joy is not something that just happens to us. It is a choice that we make. When we choose to be joyful, even amid difficult circumstances, we are expressing our trust in God and His goodness.

The verse then goes on to say, “In the day of adversity, consider.” When we are going through tough times, it is important to take some time to reflect on what God is trying to teach us. He uses the situation to discipline us, to strengthen our faith, or to prepare us for something greater.

Finally, the verse concludes with this statement: “God has made the one as well as the other, so that mortals may not find out anything that will come after them.” This verse is an indication that we cannot always know why God allows certain things to happen in our lives. However, we can trust that He is in control and that He is working all things together for our good (Romans 8:28).

Ways to apply Ecclesiastes 7:14 to your life:

• When you are going through a good time, take some time to thank God for His blessings. Don’t take your prosperity for granted. Remember that it is all a gift from Him.

• When you are going through a tough time, don’t give up hope. Trust that God is with you and that He is working all things together for your good.

• Use difficult times as an opportunity to grow in your faith. Ask God what He wants you to learn from the situation.

• Be patient. We do not always understand why God allows certain things to happen in our lives. However, we can trust that He knows what is best for us.

Ecclesiastes 7:14 is a verse that gives us hope and strength in all seasons of life. It indicates to us that God is sovereign, that He loves us, and that He is working all things together for our good.
