How to relieve stress?

While a certain amount of stress in our lives is normal and even necessary, excessive stress can interfere with normal daily activities and take a toll on our personal lives and health.

Today, you can try an ancient Japanese technique of self-relaxation that will not take you more than 5 minutes and can be done just about anywhere.

The Jin Shin Jyutsu Technique

This technique is called Jin Shin Jyutsu, which means “harmonizing the life energy in the body.” It is based on the idea that the hands are connected to the body’s energy system, and by holding different fingers on your hands, you can stimulate different energy points and promote relaxation.

How to do it

Thumb: The thumb is said to help combat emotions like anxiety and worry. To hold the thumb, grasp your thumb with the opposite hand, wrapping all of your fingers and thumb around it. Hold for one to two minutes.

Index finger: The index finger is said to help you combat fear. To hold the index finger, grasp your index finger with the opposite hand, wrapping all of your fingers and thumb around it. Hold for one to two minutes.

Middle finger: The middle finger is said to help you control anger and resentment. To hold the middle finger, grasp your middle finger with the opposite hand, wrapping all of your fingers and thumb around it. Hold for one to two minutes.

Ring finger: The ring finger is said to help you fight depression and sadness. It is also said to be responsible for making you more decisive. To hold the ring finger, grasp your ring finger with the opposite hand, wrapping all of your fingers and thumb around it. Hold for one to two minutes.

Pinky finger: The pinky finger is said to help calm anxiety and increase optimism and confidence. It is also said to represent self-esteem. To hold the pinky finger, grasp your pinky finger with the opposite hand, wrapping all of your fingers and thumb around it. Hold for one to two minutes.

Additional tips

If you want to calm your mind, slightly press in the centre of your palm with the thumb of the opposite hand and hold it for at least one minute.

Practice this technique every day to stay calm and re-establish the balance within yourself.
