Love like you’ve never heard it before

What 1 John 4:10 means for YOU

“In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.”

1 John 4: 10

Imagine this: you’re not the one who starts loving God, God loved you first! That’s the amazing message of 1 John 4:10. It’s like saying, “Here’s the real deal about love: it’s not about us loving God perfectly, it’s about God loving us perfectly, even when we mess up.”

Think about it. We’re all a bit wonky, right? We make mistakes, say dumb things, and sometimes just feel lost. But God doesn’t care about that. He loved us so much that He sent His son, Jesus, to be a special kind of gift. It wasn’t a birthday cake or a puppy (although those are pretty awesome!), it was a sacrifice. Jesus took the blame for all the bad stuff we do, so we could be free and close to God again.

Why is this important for us today? Well, in our world where love can feel like a “sometimes thing,” 1 John 4:10 reminds us that God’s love is always there, no matter what. It gives us:

Superpower Forgiveness: Knowing God loves us unconditionally makes it easier to forgive others, even when they hurt us.

Hope in the Dark: When things are tough, Jesus’ sacrifice reminds us that there’s always hope for a better future.

A Reason to Be Kind: Seeing how much God loves us inspires us to love others the same way, making the world a little brighter.

So, next time you feel down or lost, remember 1 John 4:10. It’s a reminder that you’re loved, no matter what. And that’s pretty darn cool.
