Divine Recognition

Understanding God’s Book of Remembrance

“A book of remembrance was written before him of those who revered the Lord and thought on his name. They shall be mine, says the Lord of hosts, my special possession on the day when I act, and I will spare them as parents spare their children who serve them. Then once more you shall see the difference between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve him.”

Malachi 3: 16b-18

The verse from Malachi 3:16b-18 talks about how God notices and treats people who honour Him differently from those who don’t.

Let’s break it down

Understanding the Verse

Book of Remembrance: This means God remembers those who respect Him and think about Him. It shows that God values people who are faithful to Him.

Special Possession: God says those who respect Him belong to Him in a special way. It shows how close they are to God and that He protects and takes care of them.

Sparing Them: God promises to protect the faithful ones when He judges everyone. It’s like how parents show love and care for their children. It tells us that God is kind and looks after those who follow Him.

The Distinction: This part says that in the end, it will be clear who followed God and who didn’t. God’s fairness will win, and those who were faithful will be rewarded, while those who were not will face consequences.

Exploring the Themes

Divine Recognition: God sees and appreciates when people are faithful to Him. He values their commitment.

Special Relationship: Those who respect God have a special connection with Him. It means they belong to Him and are loved by Him.

Divine Protection: God promises to keep those who trust Him safe. He is like a caring parent who looks after His children.

Ultimate Justice: This part assures us that in the end, God will make things right. Those who did what was right will be rewarded, and those who did wrong will face consequences.

Application

For believers, this verse gives them hope and courage in their faith. It reminds them that God sees and values their loyalty. It also encourages them to keep trusting and following God, knowing that He cares for them deeply.

In short, Malachi 3:16b-18 shows how God recognizes, protects, and rewards those who honour Him, giving believers confidence and hope in their relationship with Him.
