What’s the story behind your nickname?
My nickname “Britto” isn’t a shortcut—it’s a legacy. Rooted in the name of St. John de Britto, a missionary known for courage and cultural empathy, it reflects resilience, service, and purpose. It’s not just a name I was given—it’s a name that continues to shape who I am.
Why They Call Me Britto: A Nickname Rooted in Legacy, Not Convenience

Introduction: The Power of a Name Reimagined
Most nicknames are trimmed versions of a longer name—convenient, informal, and effortless. “Britto,” however, is not a shortcut. It’s a story. A statement. A silent thread connecting memory, identity, and meaning. In a world obsessed with brevity, this nickname resists simplicity and insists on presence.
Where It Begins: A Name Woven with History
I was named Johnbritto—not John, not Britto, but both. Not hyphenated, not blended. Intentionally distinct. The name itself pays homage to St. John de Britto, a 17th-century Jesuit missionary who walked the soil of Tamil Nadu, India, and left behind a legacy of courage, conviction, and cultural empathy.
St. John de Britto didn’t merely preach; he immersed himself in the life of the people, adopting their customs, learning their language, and ultimately sacrificing his life for the faith he carried. In naming me, my parents anchored me to this lineage—bold, unyielding, and purposeful.
Over time, people began calling me “Britto.” Not to simplify, but to signify. Not because “John” was too common, but because “Britto” carried the essence of who I was meant to become.

Not a Diminutive—A Distillation
To be called “Britto” is to be reminded, constantly, of where I come from and who I aspire to be. It evokes:
Resilience, because St. Britto faced persecution and never backed down.
Adaptability, because he embraced new cultures without diluting his faith.
Service, because he lived not for applause but for a higher calling.
In many ways, “Britto” distills my identity more clearly than any formal title. It’s not just a syllable; it’s a standard.
The Unseen Dialogue
When friends, colleagues, or readers call me “Britto,” they may not realize they’re invoking a name that holds history and humility in equal measure. But I know it. And I let it guide me—especially in moments when clarity is hard to find.
In the long hours of writing, during difficult decisions, while building Rise&Inspire from a simple blog to a space of shared purpose, it’s “Britto” that echoes like a compass—direct, firm, and unwavering.
Conclusion: A Name That Chooses You Back
You don’t always choose your nickname. Sometimes, it chooses you. And if you’re fortunate, like I have been, that nickname becomes a lens—sharpening your vision, reminding you of your mission, and never letting you forget the weight you carry.
So when I sign off as Britto, I do so with full awareness that it isn’t a name trimmed for comfort. It’s a name carved from something deeper—something earned.

Postscript:
Rise&Inspire was born from the same spirit. Not to blend in, but to stand out. Not to simplify, but to elevate. And just as “Britto” continues to shape me, so too does this platform, with every word I write.
