Can a Silent Example Change Your Life Forever?

Daily writing prompt
Describe a man who has positively impacted your life.

He positively impacted my life not through advice or instruction, but through quiet example—by living with calm, humility, and integrity that gently taught me how to be.

Some people change us without ever announcing their role in our lives. This reflection is about one such man—someone who never offered advice, yet taught me how to live through his calm presence, quiet integrity, and steady way of being. Even today, his example continues to guide me.

Certain prompts return gently, not asking for a new response, but for a truer one.

Describe a man who has positively impacted your life” is one of them.

I’ve responded to this question before—once by honouring a mentor who shaped my thinking and direction:

And once by acknowledging how communities and shared journeys quietly formed who I became:

Today, however, I think of a man who shaped me not through words, but through example. He never tried to correct me, yet I often found myself correcting my own impulses after observing how he carried himself. His calm during tense moments, his humility in times of success, and his silence when words were unnecessary left a lasting impression.

Much of who I am today carries his imprint—subtle, unseen, yet deeply real. Some influences do not announce themselves; they reveal their power only with time.

For that quiet, enduring influence, I remain deeply grateful.

Who Has Been the Greatest Mentor in Your Life?

Describe a man who has positively impacted your life.

Christ has been the greatest mentor in my life, inspiring me with His teachings on love, forgiveness, humility, and service. His wisdom continues to guide my actions and writing, making a lasting impact on my spiritual journey.

The Eternal Mentor: Lessons from Christ That Transformed My Life

When I saw today’s WordPress prompt, “Describe a man who has positively impacted your life,” I smiled. It was a familiar question, one that appeared exactly a year ago. Back then, I had written a post titled “Online Communities That Shaped My Journey,” where I described how collective forces—varied, vibrant online communities—played a pivotal role in shaping my growth.

But today, I felt a tug to approach this question differently. Instead of a collective, I want to focus on an individual, someone whose teachings have profoundly shaped me: Christ.

I often hesitate to name a single person as my greatest influence because life, after all, is a mosaic of many inspirations. Yet, when I think deeply about the cornerstone of my spiritual growth and the guiding force behind much of my writing, it is undoubtedly Christ’s teachings. He has not merely impacted me but continues to inspire my journey, filling my heart and words with purpose.

The Wake-Up Call: Finding Inspiration in Christ

It all began when I started writing my Wake-Up Call Messages. These were deeply spiritual reflections, often inspired by the morning messages and verses shared by His Excellency, the Rt. Rev. Dr. Selvister Ponnumuthan. His ability to distil Christ’s wisdom into words that stirred the soul motivated me to explore Scripture more profoundly.

Through this practice, I came to realize that Christ’s teachings were not simply historical or theological lessons. They were alive—relevant, transformative, and timeless. Writing these posts became more than a routine; it became a spiritual practice, a way to align my thoughts with the divine wisdom Christ offers.

Christ’s Impact Through His Teachings

When I reflect on Christ’s teachings, I see them as a compass, pointing me to live a more intentional and meaningful life.

1. Love and Compassion

Christ’s call to “love one another as I have loved you” (John 13:34) resonates deeply with me. This is not a passive love but an active choice—a commitment to empathy, kindness, and understanding.
I recall a time when a harsh comment on my blog left me momentarily deflated. My instinct was to feel defensive. But then I remembered Christ’s call for compassion. Instead of reacting, I chose to respond with grace, seeking to understand the reader’s perspective. That moment transformed a potential conflict into a connection, reminding me that love has the power to heal even in the smallest interactions.

2. Forgiveness and Grace

Forgiveness is perhaps one of Christ’s most challenging yet liberating teachings. “Forgive, and you will be forgiven” (Luke 6:37) is a verse that stays with me.
In my personal life, there have been moments when I held onto grievances, believing they protected me from pain. But over time, I learned that forgiveness doesn’t absolve the other person—it frees me. It’s an act of grace, a surrender of control, and a step toward peace.

3. Humility and Service

Christ’s humility is a lesson I strive to emulate. He washed the feet of His disciples, an act of profound humility and service. Inspired by this, I see my writing not as a platform to showcase myself but as an opportunity to serve others. Each blog post is a small way to give back, to uplift, and to inspire.

Christ as a Writer’s Inspiration

One of the things I admire most about Christ is His way with words. Through parables, He conveyed eternal truths in a way that even the simplest mind could grasp yet the wisest could ponder endlessly.

As a writer, I find this profoundly inspiring. It reminds me to strive for clarity and relatability in my writing. I want my words to resonate, to touch hearts, and to linger in the minds of my readers. In a way, Christ’s storytelling is the ultimate example of what every writer aspires to achieve—timeless impact.

The Chain Reaction: Christ’s Teachings in Action

Over the years, I’ve seen how embracing Christ’s message has influenced my readers and the Rise&Inspire community. Every time I share a post inspired by His teachings, I receive responses from readers who say those words came to them at the right moment.

I remember one comment from a reader who said my post on humility helped them reconcile with a friend after years of estrangement. That feedback humbled me—it wasn’t just my words but the essence of Christ’s message flowing through them that made a difference.

A Wake-Up Call Message Inspired by Christ

This morning, as I reflected on Christ’s influence, I felt inspired to write this:

“Each day is an opportunity to walk the path of love, forgiveness, and humility that Christ exemplified. Let His light guide your actions and inspire your journey toward kindness and purpose. For in serving others, we find our truest selves, and in loving unconditionally, we reflect His eternal love.”

A Mentor for All Seasons

Christ’s teachings are a wellspring of wisdom, one that never runs dry. In Him, I’ve found not just a mentor but a constant guide, someone whose lessons have shaped my actions, my words, and my heart.

While many people and communities have positively impacted me, Christ remains the eternal mentor—the one whose influence transcends time, place, and circumstance.

So, I invite you, dear reader, to reflect on who has shaped your life. Is it a person, a community, or perhaps a figure like Christ, whose wisdom continues to guide and uplift? Share your story with me, for in sharing, we grow together.

Conclusion

Writing this post reminded me that true inspiration doesn’t fade; it evolves, deepens, and continues to guide us in unexpected ways. Christ’s influence is not limited to my spiritual journey—it flows into every aspect of my life, from how I write to how I connect with others.

As I close, I invite you to explore His teachings, whether for spiritual growth or as a source of timeless wisdom. May you find, as I have, a mentor for all seasons, whose impact is eternal.
