What Keeps You Believing When You Can’t See the Way?

“What we can’t see often carries us the furthest.”

Trusting the Unseen:

A Reflection on Faith and Resilience

A Rise & Inspire Devotional
By Johnbritto Kurusumuthu, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Rise & Inspire

“Just because you can’t see the air, doesn’t mean you stop breathing, and just because you can’t see God, doesn’t mean you stop believing.”

This simple truth hit me like a quiet thunderbolt one restless night. I was wrestling with questions—big ones—about purpose, pain, and the silence that sometimes follows prayer. In that moment, I realized faith isn’t about seeing; it’s about trusting what sustains us, even when it’s invisible.

Think about it: every breath you take is a leap of faith in the air you can’t see. It’s there, steady and life-giving, filling your lungs without fanfare. God’s presence is much the same—unseen, yet essential. Scripture echoes this in Hebrews 11:1: “Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen” (ESV). Like air, God doesn’t need to announce Himself to be real.

In 2025, our world bombards us with the visible—screens, stats, and stress. It’s easy to doubt what we can’t measure or touch. But consider the wind rustling the leaves or the love you feel for someone miles away—unseen, yet undeniable. Faith asks us to lean into that mystery.

Take Corrie ten Boom, who clung to God’s promises in a Nazi prison when hope seemed lost. Or think of a friend who prays through a storm, trusting beyond the clouds. Their stories remind us: that what we can’t see often carries us the furthest.

So, what’s your “unseen” today? A dream deferred? A silent prayer? Don’t stop breathing—or believing. God’s there, as constant as the air, ready to lift you over life’s walls.

Finding Strength in Humility

Lessons from 1 Peter 2:18-19

Introduction

In a world that values strength and self-reliance, virtues like humility and endurance can feel out of place. Yet, 1 Peter 2:18-19 calls believers to embrace patience and forgiveness, especially in challenging situations:

“Slaves, accept the authority of your masters with all deference, not only those who are kind and gentle but also those who are harsh. For it is a credit to you if, being aware of God, you endure pain while suffering unjustly.”

Peter’s message is not an endorsement of mistreatment but a call to spiritual maturity. Rather than focusing on immediate relief, we’re encouraged to reflect Christ-like humility and patience, even when tested.

Reflecting on 1 Peter 2:18-19

These verses invite us to respond to difficulties with a grace that aligns with Jesus’ teachings. While modern readers may not relate to a literal master-servant relationship, the call to endure unjust treatment with patience applies to anyone facing challenges in their personal or professional lives. Through such endurance, we grow spiritually and draw closer to God’s example of compassion and humility.

Finding Purpose in Suffering

Christianity teaches that suffering can have meaning when viewed through faith. Peter’s words remind us that God sees our endurance, and it becomes a testament to His love when we respond with grace rather than resentment. This doesn’t mean we accept injustice passively; instead, we trust God’s timing and practice patience.

Practical Applications for Today

  1. Respond with Kindness: In difficult situations, choose patience over anger, reflecting God’s love.
  2. Pray for Strength and Peace: Seek God’s wisdom to respond with grace during challenging times.
  3. Endure with Faith: Remember that temporary hardships are shaping you for a greater purpose.
  4. Seek Growth Through Trials: Embracing humility and forgiveness in adversity can strengthen your faith.

Conclusion: Embracing Grace

Reflecting on 1 Peter 2:18-19, we learn that true strength lies in patience and kindness. By enduring life’s challenges with a heart grounded in faith, we embody Christ’s example of love and resilience. Let us ask for God’s guidance to navigate difficulties with humility, trusting that each moment brings us closer to His presence.

Wake-Up Call Message

This morning, let’s begin with open hearts, embracing patience and kindness as God’s gifts. May we find strength in humility and trust that God honors our endurance. May His peace guide us through today’s challenges, shaping us as vessels of His love.

Finding God’s Favor When You Feel Overlooked

Discovering Hope in Psalm 106:4:

Have you ever felt like everyone around you is moving forward while you’re stuck in place? If so, you’re not alone. It can be tough when you feel like you’re being left behind, especially when it seems like others are experiencing success and blessings.

Psalm 106:4 speaks to this feeling of being forgotten. It starts with a heartfelt plea: “Remember me, O Lord, when you show favour to your people; help me when you deliver them.” This verse makes us ask: How can we keep our hope alive when it feels like God’s favour has skipped us?

Asking for God’s Help and Understanding His Timing

At first glance, this psalm is a prayer asking for God’s attention and help. The writer knows that God is a God of favour and deliverance, but there’s a worry about being overlooked. It’s easy to feel that way when others are getting the blessings we want, whether it’s a new job, a restored relationship, or personal fulfilment.

But would God forget about us? No, He wouldn’t. Psalm 106 reminds us that it’s okay to ask God to remember us and guide us. It’s a call to build a stronger connection with Him and trust that His timing is always right.

Trusting That God’s Timing Is Perfect

It’s natural to wonder why God’s favour seems delayed. It can feel like waiting for a bus that never comes. But God’s timing is always perfect, even if we don’t see it. Look at the story of Joseph in the Bible. He was betrayed, enslaved, and jailed before he became the second most powerful person in Egypt. Throughout all these hardships, Joseph trusted God, and eventually, God’s favour changed his life in incredible ways.

So, what does this mean for us? It means that even if we feel like we’re stuck, God is working in the background. Psalm 106:4 reminds us to keep praying, seeking, and trusting, knowing that God will act when the time is right.

Applying Psalm 106:4 to Our Lives

Psalm 106:4 can be a great comfort when you need it. Here are some practical ways to use this verse in your daily life:

1. Start a Gratitude Journal: Write about moments when you’ve felt God’s favour. This simple practice can help you see His presence in your life, even in small things.

2. Connect with a Faith Community: If you feel forgotten, join a Bible study, a small group, or a church community. Being around people who share your faith can be a great source of encouragement.

3. Pray for What You Need: Don’t be afraid to ask God for help, just like the psalmist did. God loves hearing from you, and prayer is a powerful way to build your relationship with Him.
